lecture: MySQL Security : Past and Present
Oddities, problems, solutions. What's new in 5.6 ?

MySQL implements somewhat unorthodox security model. This session aims to explain the principles behind it and give practical examples on how authenticating and authorizing users works in MySQL. The new MySQL 5.6 functionality is highlighted and explained.
The session starts with an introduction on what the MySQL security model is on logical and physical level. Principles behind how authentication and authorization work and how they can be tailored to suit your needs are covered in great detail. Some common gotchas are highlighted and explained.
Then we enumerate the recent functionality additions in this area and try to get a holistic view on how they all contribute towards a more secure MySQL.
