Version 1.0-final
Speaker: Sebastian Bergmann
Sebastian Bergmann has believed in Open Source from day one. He has a university degree in computer science, and has created the industry-leading testing tool PHPUnit, which has played a vital role inprofessionalizing software development with PHP. He shares his comprehensive experiences in publications and at conferences. As Co-Founder and Principal Consultant of The PHP Consulting Company (thePHP.cc), Sebastian helps his clients to develop software successfully. In his free time, he works on PHPUnit, likes board games, and really enjoys making fancy ice cream.
First OSS Contact
My first computer was an Amiga and it was on this machine that I learned to write software using Assembly and C. In the Amiga free-software community I had my first contact with Open Source, for instance I remember using PasTeX (the University of Passau's LaTeX distribution).
Unfortunately, the Amiga's operating system was not Open Source so its excellence was lost due to its proprietary and closed nature when Commodore went under.
Contributer in OSS-Projekt
I have created, and still maintain, PHPUnit. This testing framework is regarded by many as industry-leading testing and having played a vital role in professionalizing software development with PHP. I also maintain around 50 other, PHP-related Open Source projects on GitHub that are either dependencies of PHPUnit or related to it as well as other tools such as PHPCPD or PHPLOC. I also contribute to PHP itself when and where I can.
