Speaker: David Kriesel
David is a computer scientist and has a passion for machine learning, which he concentrated on both at the Creative Machines Lab of Cornell University and Bonn University. He loves biology, social insects and thoughts about how computer science influences society. In real life, he's head of release engineering at IVU Traffic Technologies (ivu.com).
David gained quite a bit of international recognition for bringing the Xerox scanning bug to public attention, followed by consequently forcing its correction. He studied in Bonn, Germany, where he also lived for nearly ten years; further living places include Brussels and Ithaca, New York.
His interest on the influences of computer science on society suggests he should have studied a social science in addition; however, he's quite happy anyway.
In computer science, especially topics like neurocomputation, machine learning, text mining and swarm behavior make his day. He also wrote a 250p ebook in German and English ("A Brief Introduction To Neural Networks"), which he made available for free at his home page. So far, it has been downloaded more than 100.000 times.
