Mittlerweile nutzt ein grosser Teil der Bevölkerung Geodaten. Google Maps, Navigationsgeräte und viele andere Produkte greifen auf Geodaten zurück. Damit taucht die Frage auf, woher diese Geodaten stammen und wie man sie nutzen darf. Wer nicht aufpasst, gerät schnell in Konflikt mit dem Urheberrecht. Betroffen sind nicht nur die Anwender, sondern auch diejenigen, die "fremde" Geodaten in eigene Webseiten, Programme oder Produkte einbauen wollen. Mit dieser technischen Entwicklung kann das Recht nicht Schritt halten. Die Situation ist unbefriedigend. "Freie" Geodaten-Projekte müssen auf Lizenzen zurückgreifen, die in einer Zeit entworfen wurden, als man Geodaten noch nicht kannte. Folge sind Auslegungsfragen, welche die freie Verbreitung von Geodaten behindern. Weitere Rechtslücken zeigen sich im Datenschutzrecht. Zusätzlich eine Vorstellung von Plugins, die dazu nötig sind und wie eine sinnvolle Gruppen/Benutzerverwaltung hierfür eingesetzt werden kann. (15 Minuten) Die zweite Hälfte des Vortrags soll auf die sogenannte "Shared Installation" eingehen, bei der Serendipity ähnlich wie PEAR zentral auf dem Server eingerichtet werden kann um mehrere Code-Basen ("Deployments") damit zu betreiben. Da dies individuelle Vorgänge sind, wird es exemplarisch an einer Test-Installation (LAMP) demonstriert, gemeinsam mit kleinen administrativen Skripts die man sich zu diesem Zweck bauen sollte. Dass Linux sich auch für die Videobearbeitung ganz hervorragend eignet, spricht sich nur langsam herum. Dabei kann man für die Lehre an Schulen damit auf kostenfreie Software zurückgreifen, die sowohl das Betriebssystem als auch die Anwendungssoftware umfasst. Mehr noch: Cinelerra cvs - das zur Zeit umfangreichste Programm für den Videoschnitt unter Linux - eignet sich besonders für die Lehre, denn alle Parameter müssen selbst eingestellt werden, in vielen Bereichen müssen Vorgehensweisen selbst bestimmt werden. Dadurch lernen die Schülerinnen und Schüler "nebenbei" eine Menge von dem Wissen, das für die Erstellung von Videos wichtig ist. Die moderaten Hardwareanforderungen bei einfachen Videoschnittaufgaben sind ebenfalls ein gutes Argument für die vorgestellte Lösung. The talk addresses the FrOSCon topic "The Open Source World in 2020 - Ein Blick in die Glaskugel...". To address the topic from a scientific perspective the talk takes the position of: If you want to predict future you must have understood history. In its first part the talk looks back into the history of Free Software as the most visible and most successful example of an Open Source phenomenon. It sketches a picture beginning with the earliest forms of Free Software until today. In the second part the talk explains Selbstentfaltung and openness as the basic principles of the phenomenon of Free Software and similar phenomena. It explains how these principles constitute a new mode of production and why this mode is stronger than the capitalist one. The talk gives a short introduction to a general model of development and shows how Free Software as well as capitalism develop(ed) according to this model. The third part draws the conclusion and extrapolates the discoveries to the near future. It is outlined where further expansion and deeper embedding of those basic principles can be expected. Virtualisierung mit Xen

Virtualisierung, als Mittel zur Kostensenkung, Aufwandsreduzierung, Skalierung nach Bedarf, optimalen Ressourcennutzung und somit Leistungssteigerung ist derzeit ein zentrales Thema in der IT. Die Cluster Virtualisierung ermöglicht das Zusammenfassen von mehreren Servern zu einer Einheit, einem so genannten Single System, das so einfach zu verwalten ist, wie eine einzelne Workstation. Virtualisierung im Zusammenhang mit Hochverfügbarkeits-Clustern auf Basis eines Single System Images (SSI) ermöglicht die Konsolidierung der Daten, bietet einen hohen Investitionsschutz für die Hardware, schafft die Voraussetzung für Serverless Backup und den Einsatz von eleganten Protokollen wie iSCSI, um nur einige Vorteile zu nennen. Zur Virtualisierung von Servern unter Linux eignet sich besonders XEN – eine professionelle und sehr performante freie Software. Xen nützt das Prinzip der Paravirtualisierung, das hat den Vorteil, dass Gast-Betriebssysteme erheblich schneller laufen als z.B. bei VMware, da die Hardware nicht vollständig emuliert werden muss. Stattdessen werden dem Gast-Betriebssystem definierte Schnittstellen für die Nutzung der Hardware angeboten. Zusammen mit dem Diskless Shared Root Konzept und XEN können hochverfügbare, einfach skalierbare Linux-Cluster kreiert werden. Basis stellt das Red Hat Global File System (GFS) und Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 mit der schon integrierten XEN Virtualisierungssoftware dar. Diese Cluster können beliebig aufgeteilt und erweitert werden, durch den Einsatz von Xen kann innerhalb weniger Minuten ein identischer Test-Cluster erstellt werden. Solche Testumgebungen (z.B. Testing, Development, Quality Assurance, Preproductive und Productive) werden zum Beispiel von SAP empfohlen um einen stabilen Betrieb zu gewährleisten. Die Virtualisierungsmöglichkteiten und die konstante Trennung von Storage und Rechenleistung bei einem Diskless Shared Root Cluster sind aber auch für das SAP Live System vorteilhaft. Bei einem SAP System auf dem Diskless Shared Root Cluster ist es jederzeit möglich, die Aufgaben auf verschiedene Cluster-Knoten zu verteilen oder umzuverteilen. Bei steigenden Anforderungen kann so zuerst die Leistungsfähigkeit des bestehenden Clusters voll ausgeschöpft und bei Bedarf kostengünstig im laufenden Betrieb einfach erweitert werden. So können die zur Verfügung stehenden Ressourcen jederzeit optimal eingesetzt werden. Dadurch werden die Gesamtkosten für das System auf ein Minimum gesenkt, es besteht ein hoher Investitionsschutz und das System wächst mit dem Unternehmen mit. Durch die Virtualisierung ist das System zudem hochverfügbar (bis zu 99,999%), da kritische Applikationen auf mehreren Knoten parallel laufen können(active/active). Bei der Firma Hilti AG führt ATIX im Moment eine der größten SAP Installationen auf Linux weltweit auf der Basis des Diskless Shared Root Clusters durch. Es wurde eine Tru64 Cluster Infrastruktur durch einen Diskless Shared Root Cluster abgelöst. Nach Vorstellung der Hochverfügbarkeitslösung, wurde diese von SAP als sehr geeignet bestätigt und wird nun von denselben im SAP Linux Lab eingesetzt. RSS-Feeds kennt wohl jeder. Leider herrscht dort, bei genauerem Hinsehen, ein ziemliches Format-Chaos, das deren Verwendung über reine News-Syndication hinaus stark einschränkt. Atom ist angetreten, diesen Zustand mit einem standardisierten Format zu verbessern. Und Atom-Feeds gemäß RFC4287 sieht man mittlerweile auch schon recht häufig. Seit Oktober 2007 ist nun mit dem Atom Publishing Protocol (RFC5023) der zweite Baustein von Atom verfügbar: Ein standardisiertes Protokoll zum Upload von Inhalten auf Webseiten.
